Meeting notes for May 19th 2016

Agenda-Old & New business Mixed

-Discussion as to changing the meeting sight.  Stay at Paradise (Cary Grant

Room) or Fruitland Park.  Suggestion was made thinking that members

Could run their boats afterward.

 

-Waiving the $10.00 entry fee for distinguished members was discussed.

Using special awards was mentioned instead.

 

-How to increase meeting attendance was discussed.  Suggested raffle,

50/50, give aways.  Are we getting the message out to ALL by email?

 

-Discussion on the WEB SITE as it exists.  Needs to be more informative.

George was not present and the issue was tabled by Ron until George

Can be present.

 

-Ron reported that George will give a rundown on navigating the Web site at

Next months meeting.

-Boat retrieval is a big issue with Ken not being there.

-How can money be raised by the club to buy a rescue boat

-It may be possible to purchase a boat but where to store it and who

-Remote control rescue boats are still very necessary

-Use of starting block area (being behind the yellow line)

-Use the Bridge area to stage your boat, check steering etc. THIS NEEDS TO POSTED ON THE WEBSITE!

-Buoys have been replaced

-2 fully charged batteries are at Fruitland Park for the rescue boat

-Parking on the grass is not permitted at Fruitland Park

-We are listed on the Villages.com Website but there are phone #’s

-Let’s Race (Carmine) will give you replacement batteries if there is

          –A cash Gift Card was donated and we could be having a rafle for it.

 

Training, Paul

-We are waiting on new members before we do another training class

-Boatcross is going well.  10 people were timed (75% participation)

-Tuesdays will be the Boatcross day and it will be held at 9:30.  This

Will occur every 1st and 3rd Tuesday.  It will be a running start

            Now.  Start and Finish will be the same buoy.

-Possible that the course of running may change (similar to offshore)

-Is there 10% off at Let’s Race.  Some say yes but, actually not.

 

OTHER DISCUSSION POINTS OF INTEREST

 

-GRAPHENE TURNIGY BATTERIES—-more powerful?????  Hobby

King sells them.  They come with 10 guage wire and a soft case.

-Introduce new member GARY YOUNG

-Swap meet will continue

-Ken will do a class on boat building.  Possibly for 4 in his garage.

-JERRY HONE showed others how to put a smooth finish on a wooden

Surface (pour-on finish)

-Old batteries can be dropped off at Best Buy

-Discussion on the importance of discharging batteries properly
